Undeniably, Steven Gerrard is a Liverpool legend, one of Liverpool's greatest players of all time, a Liverpool fan through and through and one of the best midfielders in world football. The service he has given Liverpool has been nothing short of incredible. The number of games he has won almost single-handedly, his 150% effort in every game and the regular, consistent, high quality of performances he produces week in and week out makes him a firm favourite with Liverpool fans throughout the world. But what else do we know of Steven Gerrard?

Well, Steven George Gerrard MBE was born in Whiston, Merseyside on 30 May 1980. Steven Gerrard started his fledgling career playing for hometown team Whiston Juniors, where he was noticed by Liverpool scouts. He was invited to join Liverpool's youth academy at the age of nine. Gerrard then had trials with a variety of clubs at the age of fourteen, even Manchester United, although he claimed in his 2006 autobiography it was "to pressure Liverpool into giving me a YTS contract." He subsequently signed his first professional contract with Liverpool on 5 November 1997.
